The Dermatopathology Unit is under the administrative direction of the
Department of Dermatology and is housed in the Department of Pathology
on the UPMC Shadyside Campus. The unit consists of two staff dermatopathologists, two fellows, and an administrative coordinator.

Service

The Unit serves at a Diagnostic Dermatopathology resource for the UPMC Health System as well as for
others in our region and beyond. The Unit's services are utilized by the hospitals of the UPMC Health
System, the University of Pittsburgh Physicians Department of Dermatology, and many community
Dermatologists and Private Practice Physicians. The Unit also has active Consultation Services,
accepting both fresh specimens for full evaluation as well as previously fixed specimens.

Education

The Dermatopathology Unit is active in Medical Student and Resident education. The Unit offers a Senior Elective in Dermatopathology through the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The Dermatopathology Unit also provides all of the Dermatopathology training to both the Dermatology and Pathology residents. The Unit also has an active Dermatopathology Fellowship Program. Electives are also available for residents from other programs who wish to rotate with the Unit.
