FEBRUARY 2006 CASE OF THE MONTH
CLINICAL FINDINGS
75 year old Caucasian male presented with a one-year history of a non-tender ecchymotic patch that started on his right forehead. He reported that the lesion started on his right forehead, then gradually extended to his left forehead and cheeks. He denied any headaches, shortness of breath, chest pain, visual changes, or constitutional symptoms. The lesion was previously biopsied and read as rosacea and he subsequently received treatment with doxycycline. When he realized that the lesion was progressing despite this therapy, he presented to our office. Two biopsies, one from the left forehead and another from the zygomatic arch, were taken.
Physical Exam
On examination, the patient had a larger reddish-brown mottled patch extending from the mid-left forehead across the left temple, down to the left cheek. No epidermal change noted. [See: FIGURE 1]
